Carpet Powder

I shampoo our carpets about 3 times a year.  But I keep seeing posts about ‘Carpet Powder’.  Like a freshener that you then vacuum up.  Last week I decided Grant and I needed a project, so we made Carpet Powder.  Basically, it’s Baking Soda and whatever aroma you want to refresh your home with.  Here’s what we did!

I like the cleaning power of Thieves in everything because I know it’s doing more than ‘smelling good’.  It’s working to keep our air clean and strengthen our immune systems.  And then I added Lemon, Orange, and Grapefruit for a nice citrus zip, not to mention the cleaning power of those oils!  And of course, trusty Baking Soda.

We used 3 Cups of Baking Soda, which is a safe deodorizer, and about 15 drops of each essential oil.  I put half the Baking Soda in a bowl and all of the oils in the bowl so we could stir it more easily.  Then we poured it into a recycled spice canister with the other half of the Baking Soda and SHOOK!

Next came the really FUN part.  Sprinkling it all over the floor.  The boys had fun squishing the balled up bits of baking soda with their fingers and their toes.  This trippled as cleaning, fun, and a sensory activity!  I highly recommend it.

I was privileged to have the aid of the wonderful, Captain America!  If ever you can manage to have his help, let me tell you, it is a pleasure. 😉

Then we went outside and pulled weeds and played, came back and vacuumed it all up!

This is an incredibly simple recipe that can be cleansing to one of the dirtiest places in your home.  It’s also an easy way to get your kids involved and have fun doing ‘chores’.
