Spring is here!! At the time of writing this, we’ve had lots of rain over the last few weeks which is unusual and very welcome for our arid climate. We’ve splashed in puddles, gone out to play and come back looking like mud monsters. Something I’m wanting to hurry and get done before it really gets nice outside is some deep cleaning. I really want to get my carpets shampooed.
From all the muddy boots tromping in and out, the carpets are just kind of icky. And yes, I do request that the boots come off right at the door, but seriously, that just doesn’t always happen. I LOVE being barefoot in my home but lately I can’t because it’s icky. No matter how much or how little I stay on top of it.
I have used a professional shampooer once in my life. Like the kind you rent from the local grocer. When I got married my husband had a carpet shampooer, and I’m so thankful because we have used it A LOT! From vomit to dog poop to potty training to mud, it gets used… a lot.
But, I didn’t like the soap I was purchasing to put in it. I didn’t like the price, the smell, and later the ingredients listed on the label. So, what did I do? You guessed it, I started making my own!
This recipe is completely toxin free and ready to go to town on your well loved carpets! Psst, mine are about 40 years old :O! They just don’t make carpet like they used to. They perk right back up after loving them with this recipe. You’d never know they were that old.
Mix together in a large container. Glass is best. This will store forever. So don’t be afraid to double or triple this recipe. This goes in the soap dispenser of your shampooer and then you just add water!
I like to at least double this recipe.
Happy Carpet and Spring Cleaning!
